The Power of Women

In many of the poverty-stricken parts of the world, women sadly are not permitted to have a significant role in their society.  This means that their knowledge and talents and strength that could be used to improve their conditions is lost.

Fortunately, CARE is an organisation that focuses on empowering women worldwide through community projects such as an innovative micro-loan programs to help women turn indigenous crafts and talents into products they can export.

CARE also focuses on building and supporting schools that teach the girls alongside the boys as well. CARE is working towards creating a world where every person has equal opportunity to realize their hidden potential.

With your help we can end the injustice and poverty through empowering our greatest resource – The Power of  Women.

The following is the transcript of the above  advertisement from Care.org that pulled at my heartstrings and captured my attention.

” There is a natural resource that exists everywhere on the planet that could improve conditions and help end poverty, yet it has been largely ignored.  That resource is women.  In may of the world’s poorest communities, women are denied a significant role.  So often their talent and potential remain untapped.”

” It is a source of power the world can no longer afford to overlook.  She has the power to change her world.  You have the power to help her do it.  Call or visit Care.org.”

It is this advertisement that made me realize how very fortunate we are  in our western culture for the simple things we often take for granted. It made me grateful for what we would conisder insignificant.   It does not take a great deal to on our part to help these women change their worlds not only for themselves but for their sons and daughters.

Are you the Michelangelo of your life?

One of the more profound statements that I recall from the hit movie  ‘The Secret’  was from Doctor Joe Vitale who said:  ” You are the Michelangelo of your own life.  The David you are sculpting is you”.

The secret to those who achieve and see their goals realized and those who don’t, actually lies within the phrase above!  We often feel that our lives are beyond our control and a mysterious force has pre-determined who is going to get what they want and who is not and that luck has everything to do with it.

Like Dr Joe Vitale said, we are the Michelangelo of our own lives.  What that means is that we are master creators.  We can deliberately choose.  We, by our intentions properly directed and focused can be what we want and get what we want.

Even if our circumstances are abysmal, we can still choose how we respond to our circumstances!  It’s in our choosing the way we respond that we begin to lift ourselves out of the situations that do not please us or make us happy.

And the funny thing is that the simpleset things that we need to do move toward what we want or want to become doesn’t cost a thing!

All you need is to :

  • Know what you want!  That is:  be clear about it to the tiniest detail.

Let’s say that you were describing the kind of house you wanted.   Let’s say your dream house.  Then I would expect you to give me detail about the house such as:

How big?  what would it be made of? brick or double brick, or cement rendered?  what about the roof?  corrugated iron or tiles?  If it’s tiles, then what kind?  What color?  What about the guttering?  downpipes? What about the flooring?  timber floating floors?  Great!  What kind of wood?  What color?

What tiles do you want in the kitchen and bathroom?  What color would they be ? What about the vanity, shower and bathtub?  Would you have a spa bath or not?  What about the taps?

Then there’s the kitchen? Tasmanian Oak or polyurtherane kitchen?   Have you thought about the kind of splashbacks you want and the appliances? If so,  specifically what brand? What about the kitchen bench tops?  Granite or marble?

Have you thought about  the landscaping around the house?  What kind of plants do you see?  Then how many garages do you see?  Do you have pool?  What size? Is it above ground or in-ground?  Salt water pool or not?  Is there an outdooor living area to enjoy with family and friends?  And what kind of outdoor furniture do you see?

I could go on and on.  The point here is that when you do an exercise in deciding what you want, you need to go into such intricate detail, because the Universe loves detail and will deliver exactly what you ask it for.

When I went house hunting quite  some years ago I had not been clear  about much other than I wanted a brick veneer home and I wanted timber flooring throughout the entire house.  That was it!  I didn’t think about anything else.  I thought God kinda ‘knew’ what I wanted, so I didn’t offer more than that.

When I bought the home it had carpet throughout the whole house.  It was brick veneer and I was reasonably happy.  I was happy that God got half of my request right.  I didn’t complain.  The day I moved in I wanted to see what was under the carpet because part of it was lifting in one of the bedrooms.  Guess what was under the carpet?  TIMBER FLOORS!

So I know from experience that the Universe will deliver exactly the picture you hold in your mind.  We are indeed the Michelangelo’s of our lives.  We are the creators of that which we hold in our thoughts.  We are constantly creating every minute we are awake.

Are you the Michelangelo of your life?  What are you creating?

The Secret behind Masterchef Julie Goodwin’s win!

It was no surprise that Julie  Goodwin, mother of three from New South Wales’ Central Coast, was announced Australia’s first Masterchef in the television series that has been coning into Australian homes nightly over the past weeks.

I say it was no surprise because anyone who had watched it carefully ( as I did), would have noticed in Julie the elements and qualities of a woman who had decided from the outset that she was in it to win it.

Many times throughout the television series when contestants were interviewed and asked questions and asked to  talked about themselves, their desire, passion, vision and so forth, Julie stood out.

I don’t know how many times I recall Julie talking about her little dream restaurant that she intended to open up on the Central Coast, and the kind of cuisine she intended to offer.  One of the most remembered comment she made was that she cooks from the heart and that she puts everything into her cooking.

Her passion, her love for food, the joy she gets from cooking meal and watching explosions of smiles on people’s faces as they taste her glorious food, are what she loves the most about cooking.

So what made Julie stand out above anyone else?

Julie had a CLEAR VISION of what she wanted.  She dreamed of winning this challenge before her.  She placed herself in the environment she needed to to get where she wanted to go.  She had a burning desire to realise her dream.  She could literally taste the victory.  She imagined herself winning it, regardless of the odds.

When Julie had been asked by Donna Hay about what the title of her cookbook would be if she won and to give a brief description of how she would set it out, she gave such a detailed account, chapter by chapter,so much so that the adjudicators as well as Donna Hay could not help but see it as a tangible object.  In fact, Donna Hay was so excited about it that she said she could see it and wanted a copy of her book.

The two competitors were asked the same question and the same vivid explanation was not offered.

Quite often we have dreams and our dreams dissipate into thin air and we wonder why.  We often wonder if it is just a mater of bad timing, bad luck, raw deal, not God’s will, however it is none of these things.

Our desires need to be backed with a burning desire.  So intense should be our desire that we begin to move toward it by putting ourselves in the appropriate environment.  For example, one may want to be an actress.  Wishing to be an actress and doing nothing about it isn’t going to get you anywhere.

However, having a plan on how you can start your journey toward it for example:  joining a local theatre group would place you right where you need to be.  If you’re out in the middle of the country on a cattle farm, you are hardly going to be ‘noticed’, right?

Besides having a plan you need to be committed to it.  Stay focused and on target for as long as it is going to take you.  I remember an interview with the great John Farnham ( one of Australia’s singing icons) where he was asked how he felt about his sudden fame.

John answered that his fame was not sudden at all.  He had a one-hit wonder when he was just a young lad with ‘Sadie the cleaning lady’, and after that nothing for two decades!  In the meantime he worked a normal job, raising a family and still pursuing his dream.  One day John was offered lead singer in ‘The Little River Band’ and of course, the rest is history and we here in the land of OZ refer to him as  ‘ Lightnin’ Jack ‘.

He persisted for 20 years.  You see, when you talk to people who have had a best selling album, book, career, you may notice that one of the underlying reasons for their success is persistence.

The road to realising your dream is a journey.  If it takes you twenty or thirty years, you keep the vision clear in your mind and in your heart.  Never give up and stay on course.  Don’t let anyone distract you or tell you that ‘you can’t ‘.

It really is that simple!

Does money buy happiness?

While I was growing up I had often heard the expression ” we’re poor but we’re happy”.  Well, for the life of me I never quite understood how anyone was happy about being poor.  Fact was, the ones making that statement had a couple or three houses by the sea, a business and several cars – not the cheap used ones either!

One can certainly argue that money can bring a lot into your life and it certainly would bring you much joy, comforts and some wonderful experiences.  But would your happiness, your everyday happiness be dependant on how much money you have or don’t have?

Think about it…………………….say you don’t have a great deal of money right now, or don’t have as much as you would like to have.  Would that mean you wouldn’t be happy, or couldn’t be happy until you had X amount of dollars in your bank account or to your name?

Would you put off being happy for now until you reached your goal of having so much money you wouldn’t know what to do with?

A lot of us have come from a conditioning and belief that money hold the key to our happiness.  Fact is:

  • Happiness has nothing to do with how much money we have or don’t have
  • Happiness   is a state of mind we choose regardless of our circumstances
  • Though we may not always be able to choose our circumstances we can certainly choose the way we respond to them.
  • We can get up in the morning and go to work with a smile on our face and choose to be happy or choose not to be happy.

Only this morning one of my co-workers asked why I was so happy when the workplace was such a gloomy place at the present moment.  I answered ”  I  can CHOOSE to be happy or unhappy regardless of what is going on around me.”

In choosing to stay in a state of being happy in the moment no matter what is going on, we change our energy.  when we raise our energy or vibration we draw more and more favourable circumstances into our lives.  Hence, we draw more of what we do want and less and less of what we don’t want in our lives.

In being in a place of happiness more and more, we attract higher and higher energy.  We attract better circumstances in our lives, better opportunities and you guessed it………………more money!

So if you want more money in your life, more abundance on every level be happy without having to have a reason!

Attracting Mr Right

One of the most frequent questions I get asked a great deal by women is ” why do I seem to attract the wrong kind of guy? And why can’t I attract Mr Right?”.

The Law of Attraction is always at work in our lives and when you have just come out of a bad or unhealthy relationship, you will need to ask yourself ” How have I attracted this into my life”?

For the person you are with at this moment, YOU have attracted into your life – be it Mr Wonderful or Loser!
Be certain that The Law Of Attraction is a Law that is impartial and it works whether or not you believe it is there. Belief has nothing to do with it.

One of the common denominators that the women who seem to keep attracting the wrong guy is that they all have a lack of self respect, self-confidence and poor self-esteem.

When a woman does not see her self as worthy, beautiful, attractive, confident, then she begins to ‘take what she can get’ so to speak. And I’ve seen this a lot. Some women will say quite often that “he made me feel this way, he made me feel ugly, he made me feel stupid, worthless, unattractive and so on”.
However, when someone makes you feel less than you are it is YOU who is giving your personal power away. No one can make you feel anything that you do not want them to. It is a choice. You can ALLOW someone to make you feel inadequate. You ALLOW someone to make you feel less than beautiful, intelligent and worthy.

The Law of Attraction is responding to your thoughts- what you think. This doesn’t mean that you are deliberately sending out messages that you deserve to be treated unfairly or poorly in your realtionship, however somewhere on a deeper level, you do not feel you worthy and hence you just get whatever lands in your lap.
The Law of Attraction will send you whatever you feel you are worthy of. Change the way you see yourself, respect who you are, nurture and take care of you body for YOU. Value the beautiful person that you are and most importantly LOVE yourself first.

Then notice that when you have made those inner changes within your own thinking the universe will send you the perfect match!
