The Power of Prayer

The terms  ” power of prayer” and the “power of thought” are so closely linked that the interpretation is identical.  Prayer actually deals with the mind or the ‘changing of the mind or thought patterns’

We often turn to prayer to calm, uplift and renew us.  Hence this means it affects our thinking.  When we change our thinking we change our world.

Prayer releases the highest form of energy in the universe, as it links you with a God energy, which is your source”.

“When you pray, you stir into action an atomic force.  You release a potent spiritual vibration that can be released in no other way.  Through prayer you unleash a God energy within and around you that gets busy working for you and through you, producing right attitudes, reactions and results.  It is your prayers that recognize and release that God power.”  ( The Dynamic Laws of Prayer by Catherine Ponder).

As a young girl I learned about the power of prayer from a group of nuns whom I frequented every second weekend or so for many many years.  I spent long periods of time in prayer in the chapel of the convent I visited and it was there that I began to appreciate and understand that one did not approach prayer as a way of ‘pleading with God for something we desperately needed and wanted in our lives’, but as a way to make conscious contact with God.

How often have you seen movies where one came to crossroads in their lives and went down on bended knee and cried out ” God, I know I never come to you for anything but if you grant me this one little thing I promise I will never bother you again”.  That is prayer?

That is a desperate attempt nothing short of grabbing at a straw and hoping ( though secretly doubting).

Prayer should not be our ” last resort’ when all else has failed.  Through prayer we connect to the God within.  When we turn to praying as our first option on every occasion we learn to become proficient in communicating with our Source.  As we look within, quiet the mind, body and emotions, it changes our energy or vibrational frequency thus attracting to us   ideas, inspiration and solutions to problems that we would not have otherwise thought of if we had turned within.

” Through prayer, you tap the operation of higher laws of supreme mind and spirit.” ” Your imprisoned thoughts and pent-up negative emotions go free and dissolve, as a higher energy floods your being and your world.” ( The Dynamic Laws of Prayer by Catherine Ponder).

There are so many ways to approach prayer: meditation, relaxation, affirmations, through periods of silence and more.  Because we are all so unique one method of praying does not fit all.  However the end result is what we want right?

Catherine Ponder was one of the first authors to influence and help change my own thinking.  She is considered one of America’s foremost inspirational authors and is a minister of the nondenominational Unity faith – long known as ‘the pioneer of positive thinking”.  She has been described by some as the ‘Norman Vincent Peale among lady ministers”.

After reading Catherine Ponder’s book  The Dynamic Laws of Prayer , you will not longer consider prayer as a dull practise.

Benefit From Meditation Exercises

The benefit of meditation exercise are countless but before I begin to outline them let us investigate where this ancient art began.

Where is all started:

To exactly find a point in the history of mankind where meditation began would be difficult.  Suffice to say that it would have commenced many millennia ago.  However what we do know is that meditation began in ancient civilizations.

Many Hindi scholars from India wrote about meditation and these are better known as the as the Vedas and the Yoga Sutras which were written by Patanzali.

And then of course there was the meditation of Siddhartha Gautama ( Buddha).  The East has practised meditation for countless centuries and though the Western world caught on it really wasn’t until the mid 20th century that meditation began to be so popular in the western world.

The benefits of meditation:

  • Helps you to relax quickly
  • Improve concentration and clarity of mind
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Helps you gain a general sense of well being
  • Assists in restoring health
  • Raises tolerance levels
  • Increases creativity
  • Brings out the inherently ‘content and happy person’ from within
  • Helps to create within you an inner peace and happiness
  • Assists in both mind and body healing

How to mediate for beginners:

One of the most common errors we can make when learning about ‘how to meditate correctly’ is not to  try too hard. I spent over three decades searching for the ‘best ways’ to meditate and during that search I  attended meditation classes, read books, purchased guided meditation CD’s and tapes, DVD’s and videos all in my extraneous effort to learn the most effective way to meditate.

Fact is that it was not until a couple of years ago that I discovered that the simplest and most effective way of mediating is to ‘ relax and breathe.  Breathing is the most important part of meditating and this needs to be performed accurately.  I call it the  2 step method that with practice anyone can get down to an art.

Step One:

Inhale through your nose and allow your diaphragm to expand while you exhale through your mouth.  In breathing this way, you slow your heart rate down and place you in a much more relaxed and calmer state.  This breathing method also helps to improve your concentration.

Step Two:

Now while you are breathing, inhaling and exhaling as described in step one focus your attention on your breathing.  Focus on the ‘feeling’ of the air that passes through your nose that fills your lungs and expands the diaphragm.  Focus on the sensation.

Getting the most out of your meditation sessions:

Meditation is an art that like anything else demands practise on a daily basis, perseverance and above all else requires that you are patient in allowing the results of your meditation to come through.

As a music teacher I often set out on paper for any new students a set of guidelines to optimize their practise sessions.  The key being ‘daily’ and then a list of ways that their practise time is effective i.e that they get the most of out their practise sessions.

Meditation is done in much the same way.

Meditate in a quiet area where you know you will not be disturbed or distracted for the duration of your meditation practise.

Always meditate in the same room if possible and preferably avoid being in a very cold or very hot environment.  It is difficult to concentrate if your environment is uncomfortable.

Take your shoes off and wear loose comfortable clothing.

Dawn is known to be the most effective time of day for meditating.  So if at all possible meditate first thing in the morning, but if this isn’t possible at least attempt to meditate around the same time each day.  This aids in establishing a routine.

Learning meditation on your own without any guidance can be a little overwhelming so continue to research meditation so that you can get the most out of it.  For absolute beginners, guided meditation is by far one of the simplest and easiest way to start and the learner will not feel so isolated.

To this day meditation is still the greatest method to achieving  inner peace and well being and is being recommended by many health practitioners both in the alternative fields as well as in the orthodox such as general practitioners and specialists.

Imagine Living a Life Without Fear

Fear can be a powerful influence in your life, often determining the actions you take or don’t take in many situations. At various times fear has probably stopped you from pursuing goals, making new friends, starting or keeping a romantic relationship, applying for a better job, starting your own business, or life changes that you would consider to be positive.

Can you imagine what it would be like to live your life without fear? Obviously you can’t eliminate fear altogether, nor would you want to. Some fears help keep you safe by discouraging you from jumping off a cliff or stepping into a line of fast-moving traffic. But the other kind of fears; the ones that prevent you from living the life of your dreams – how would it feel to release those once and for all?

For example:

Imagine if you had absolutely no fear of failure and you knew that you could accomplish anything you wanted – no limitations whatsoever. What would you do with your life? Would you change careers? Would you go back to school? Would you write that novel?

Imagine if you knew without a doubt that you deserved to have everything you want, and you had no doubts that you weren’t good enough or worthy enough. Would you finally allow yourself to get out and meet that special someone, fall in love and live happily ever after? Would you terminate the unhealthy relationships that are no longer serving you and haven’t been for years?

Imagine if you were no longer afraid to pursue your dreams and instead eagerly embraced opportunities to live every experience you wanted to live. What would you do if you could do anything at all?

You may be thinking “It’s great to imagine all this but I still feel fearful much of the time. I’m still afraid to fail. I’m still afraid to be rejected. I’m still afraid to take a chance. How do I get past those scary feelings?”

First of all, forgive yourself for being human. It’s completely natural to have these feelings, and there is nothing wrong with you – your body is wired to react strongly to potentially threatening situations. Your body can’t tell whether the threatening situation is truly harmful or not; it simply gives you the warning signs like a pounding heart, sweaty palms, shallow breathing, tightening muscles, and so on. Fear can be pretty darn intimidating – no doubt about it!

However, it’s important to understand that fear is just a feeling when it comes right down to it. It can’t physically hold you back from doing anything, and it can’t limit your potential unless you allow it to do so. Overcoming the influence of fear so you can live an amazing life is a simple matter of knowing how to diffuse the fearful feelings in the heat of the moment. This can be done in a variety of ways, including the use of calming affirmations, meditation, and breath work. When you calm the thoughts that are triggering the fear response, your body will automatically calm down too.

Happiness after a relationship break-up?

It seems absurd that one can think about happiness just after a relationship break up, right?

The thing with a relationship break-up is that it leaves you in such a state that you hardly have the strength to go on with your life. Fact is, relationship break-ups can leave you shattered and lifeless.  Your sense of purpose and inspiration vanish.  It leaves you ‘not knowing’ what to do with yourself.

This kind of thinking doesn’t serve you at all.  Yes, a relationship break up or divorce ( either one is just as emotionally painful as the other), can be difficult to recover from, however you can bounce back from it.

Here are some simple steps to help you see things more clearly.

1.  Rather than view your break-up as the end, see it as an opportunity for a new beginning in your life.

2.  Cry or grieve if you must ( and I know in some cases this can be part of a healing process), however do not dwell on it for too long.  Learn to accept what is and that no amount of crying will change anything.

3.  Begin to list the things you have in your life that you are grateful for.  Often when relationships break up, it seems that all your happiness walked out the door.  Not so!  Look around you and take a sincere look at what blessings you still have in your life.

4.  Find tools you can use to help overcome your loss.  Meditation, visualisation, affirmations.  These are all effective tools to help you re-focus and help you regain your sense of inner peace, a sense of balance and harmony.

5.  Do not go looking for ‘happiness‘ in another relationship.  Learn that inner happiness comes firstly from within you.  It is an illusion that your happiness can only be delivered by someone outside of yourself.  It just doesn’t work that way.

6.  If you want to move on with your life, you need to move beyond any past hurt, anger, resentment that you may have toward your former partner or spouse.  Harboring any of these negative emotions only serve to keep  you stuck in the past.

7.  Begin to list all the things that bring you happiness and joy right now that is already present in your life.  focusing on what does make you happy, the things you already have that brings a smile to your face or makes you laugh, will help bring more of the same toward you.  This is the Law of Attraction in action. What you focus on is what you attract more of.

8.  Make time for yourself.  Learn to accept and enjoy doing things on your own.  Learn to love the pleasure of your own company.

We live in a world where there is a great deal of emphasis on doing things with others, and when you do not have a significant other to do things with, you feel it is ‘unnatural’  and unusual.  Quite the contrary.  I discovered a whole new world quite some years down the track after my own divorce that it was sheer fun to go out and eat dinner alone.

I had no one tell me what I should or should not order, which kind or restaurant I ought to pick to dine at, what time I should eat, what I should wear or what time I should be home.  I had no pressure and  I quite simply had a ball!

9.  Find something you absolutely love doing, be it reading, painting, playing music, singing, gardening, sewing, knitting, playing sport, studying, bike riding, jogging or anything else that you love doing.  Re-directing your energy in this way as opposed to laying on the lounge under a blanket wallowing in misery is a far better option and will lead to a more positive and happier outcome.

Getting What You Want

When we talk about creating our reality through using the tools associated with the Law of Attraction such as affirmations, meditations, vision boards, goal setting etc, we also need to take a look at a key element that without we will fall short of achieving our desired outcome.

It isn’t enough that we DESIRE something, though this is important.  We can go  repeat affirmation after affirmation parrot fashioned.   We can spend endless hours holding a picture in our minds eye.  We can create the most exquisite vision boards and we can be quite specific in setting each goal up step by step.

But even this is not enough.  Back of all of these needs to be an important  element that brings this all together perfectly for you.  And this is, how you FEEL and the emotion you evoke from within you when you either affirm, meditate, visualise  or as you read your list  of goals.

Grasping how you can better understand the  Law of Attraction works is integral, and perhaps the first step in bringing to you what you desire, be it money, abundance ( and this could be in any part of your life), better relationships, a better house, car, job etc.

When you think about something you want realized in your life you need to feel ‘as if you already have it’.   This may sound a little absurd, however  Universal Intelligence does not understand lack, only YOU do.  So if your affirmation, meditation or visualisation is backed with a sense of  a desperate need, wanting, hoping or wishing ,this will only serve to  block it from you.

When you obsess on ‘ what you don’t have yet’, you will continue to attract more of ‘what you don’t have’.

Your feelings need to match what you are affirming, meditating upon or visualize.  You cannot do all of these things whilst feeling lousy or experiencing negative feelings.  In order to attract that which you desire, focus on ‘feeling good’ as well as cultivating a feeling of  an ‘inner knowing that you already have what you want now’.

That Silent Place

Two of the most influential writers and speakers of my time, and who have inspired my life is Dr Deepak Chopra and Dr Wayne Dyer.     I had the absolute privilege of attending a seminar in Sydney some 20 years ago now and this was the beginning of the rest of my life.  So profoundly moved was I for having heard them both speak, that I walked out of the seminar transformed.  I cannot  describe it any other way.

One of  my more  favourite books that Dr Chopra wrote  is ” Seven Spiritual Laws of Success”.  In the chapter The Law of Pure Potentiality, Dr Chopra suggest practicing silence periodically to experience this Law of Pure Potentiality.  He offers meditation, ideally 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening to experience this field of pure silence and pure awareness.  This is where he says ” is the field of infinite correlations, the field of infinite organizing power, the ultimate ground of creation where everything is inseparably connected with everything else”.

It is through meditation, going within to find this silent space, a space that Dr W Dyer also refers to it as ‘the gap’- that place between thoughts that you will find absolute bliss and connection with our source.  In the Bible it is expressed as: ” Be still, and know that I am God” .

It’s in that silent space between your thoughts that  we find stillness and we tap into our creativity.  However Dr Chopra suggests that in order to find that connection to the field of pure potentiality we need to practice non-judgement.  this is where we are constantly judging things as right or wrong or good or bad.  This creates what Dr Chopra calls ” internal dialogue”.

Dr Wayne Dyer also peaks about meditating and its purpose is to get into the gap where we enter that sacred space that we know as the unlimited power of our Source- the place that takes us to “that awareness”.

In his book  Getting In the Gap Dr Dyer says ” meditating is a way of quieting our chatterbox thoughts and swimming below the surface.  This is where we can be still and know God”.  He mentions that we have about 60,000 thoughts every day so it would be almost impossible to find that space between our thoughts    ‘the gap’ during our waking hours.  So in order to find that silent space – the gap – to connect to our Source- to find the “place of pure potentiality” as Dr Chopra puts it or “the gap that the magic and the infinite possibilites await us” as Dr Dyer writes, we must learn to meditate.

It is through the practice of meditation that takes us to that ‘gap’ between our thoughts to make conscious contact with our Source  that we find God.

Creating Your Vision

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one” Albert Einstein

I feel that one of the most important ingredients in your formula for success is having a clearly defined and vivid vision of where you want to be. At first the “how” is not that important, you need to create a vision that gets you so excited that you develop the mentality that you will stop at nothing to get what you want. Many people first focus on the how than very quickly find themselves overwhelmed with too many details and just as quickly talk them selves out of pursuing their goals. You have to take a leap of faith and trust that the how will be shown to you as you go along. Do you remember the days as a kid with dreams of epic proportions? What happened those dreams? You got older and domesticated by a society that says that having those dreams is foolish. That’s nonsense, why wouldn’t you want to accomplish the things that even as a kid you knew would make you happy. I encourage you to dream like you once used to.

“Shoot for the moon…even if you

Miss you’ll still be amongst them stars”- Beanie Sigel(rap artist)

One way I keep myself motivated and keep my vision alive is through my picture book. In my book I have everything that I want and every morning I look at it to remind me what I want in life. Go right now and get some magazines and cut out every picture of the things you want and places you want to visit, don’t be thinking if you can actually get those things now, dare to dream. Remember your mind thinks in pictures, look at your picture book until in becomes as vivid as possible in the theater of your mind. Your mind cant tell the difference between something you remember or something you experience in real time.

Visualization Exercises(meditation):

(Please read this whole section, I will explain why almost all self help fails to produce the results people want)

You can think of meditation as conscious sleeping. Just as you sleep to gain energy for your daily functioning, meditation is conscious sleeping that gives you all the energy(creative abilities) you need for what you intend to accomplish.

I also use lucid dreaming as another way to increase creativity, I will soon write a hub on lucid dreaming.(Lucid dreaming is when you actually become aware in your dream that you are dreaming, once properly trained you can control your dreams)

Use the power of meditation to help you achieve your goals. Strive to everyday meditate one minute for each year of your current age. I am 24, so everyday I try and meditate at least 24 minutes. If you are new to meditation check out this website on transcendental meditation .There are many techniques find something that feels good to you.

Quantum Mind Power

Daily Routine:

1. Pick a nice comfortable place where to meditate. Have an intention on what you plan to meditate on before hand. Ex. A destination you want to visit.

2. Find a comfortable position to sit. Sitting on a chair or on the floor, does not really matter as long as it is comfortable for you.

3. Cross your legs, clasp your hands together.(this helps make your own energy circuit and gives stability)

4.Close your eyes, than stop inner and outer chatter.

5. Relax, begin thinking that your whole body is becoming extremely relaxed.

6. Eyes should be closed.

7. You will notice that your mind is full of many thoughts. Your mind will than begin to ask questions to those thoughts and try and come up with answers whether they are known or unknown. This is why your mind(ego) can be your enemy if it mostly thinks in negative terms.

8. You will need to transcend your mind and thoughts in order to meditate. Your mind and thoughts are what separate you from your higher self, you can also think of your higher self as your subconscious mind don’t worry about the labels.

9. You transcend your mind by simply observing your breath. Don’t inhale/exhale consciously just observe your natural breathing. Don’t go behind your thoughts, if you catch your self drifting just always come back to your breathing. Slowly the amount of thoughts reduces and your breathing becomes thinner and shorter. If you are able to keep all your focus on your breath, you will get to the point of no thought and no breath. This state of no thought is your connection to your divine being and energy body. The more you meditate the more benefits and energy that you will receive. Your own self awareness and consciousness will also expand.

10. You will feel a very pleasurable feeling meditating. If you feel any discomfort in your body these can be possible areas of disease or illness. If you meditate everyday you will heal your body naturally.

11. Now that you are in a state of no thought and total relaxation. Begin to think only on your intention. Remember whatever you think now is in a state that will be impregnated directly into your subconscious. It is incredibly important that you don’t color any of your thoughts with any lack, limitation, dis belief or doubt. This is why almost all self help material does not produce the results people expect. Wishing for more money(or anything else) never works, the thought of wanting more money also has the thought of doubt attached to it. Ask your self how many thoughts that you think about have been modified in a way that is not beneficial to you. You just never realize that you are programming your sub conscious all day. This is why meditation is so powerful. You are able to make suggestions to your subconscious where the thought is not modified in any way shape or form. So if you want to make things happen fast you need to get rid of the concept of attaching time to yourthoughts. You have to remember that everything you get in your life comes based on the conditions that you set up and time is usually one condition that cuases the most frustration with people. Just as a computer programmer gives a computer instructions to complete a task, you program the most powerful computer you have which is your subconscious. Your conscious mind acts as the gate keeper as to what thoughts you let in. Now that you know this choose to become more aware and conscious about what you think all day long. Learn to see the world in a non linear way, remove time from your consiousness and watch how things show up in your life faster than you ever thought.

Thoughts = feelings = actions = results (just like that you can begin to shape your life)

12. Mentally rehearse every moment of it with all your senses. Dare to be like Peter Pan 🙂

13. Visualize in vivid detail, your intention as established fact. Also make sure you meditate only on days you feel good. Remember you want your thoughts to be as pure as possible. This also means that you really find out what you want, make sure its not something you want solely for ego purposes. Thoughts that involve the ego are usually always colored with negativity.

14. With time you will begin to be able to hold vivid pictures of anything(you will develop you third eye). The more you are able to hold onto an image in your mind the more power you give it.

15. Get up and go have a great day 🙂 notice how much energy you have the rest of the day. As you advance in your discipline, you will have a lot of fun basically creating your day before it starts.

To start making that vision a reality you will have to change some of your beliefs and adopt beliefs that will help you reach your goals. Because if you have this great vision of you retiring on your own private beach but deep down you don’t believe you can do it, you have already sabotaged yourself. Your desire and your belief are in conflict with each other and therefore you will not manifest what it is that you want into your life. If you want to be a good leader one day but you currently have the belief that you are a shy person, it will not happen. You need to truly make a decision to adopt the belief that you are really outgoing. When you truly decide to do something you will find a way to do it.

“Nothing happens unless first a dream” – Carl Sandburg

Some Ways to shape your beliefs:

1. Always think Success- as soon as you think about failure forget about it and don’t let anymore negative thoughts snowball. The more attention you give a thought the more powerful it will become than you will make it harder for yourself to get back to a productive mind state. The only way to change how you feel is to think about something else. Whenever you feel doubt, fear, and failure creeping into your mind have a default thought that you can use to avoid giving attention to mental poison. As soon as I feel I am entertaining thoughts of negativity I immediately begin to think about relaxing on a beach and affirm to myself that “I attract abundance to all areas of my life”. The more I try and have the feelings of being on the beach with no worries and remind myself that I am in complete control of how I feel, I immediately feel the negativity begin to melt away as I begin to focus on my new positive thought.

2. Develop the belief that you are better than you currently feel- don’t look at your weaknesses as a burden but as an opportunity to improve your self. When I find something I don’t like about my personality I don’t get down on myself for it, I just realize that now I have something I can work on to make myself better. Most importantly love and accept who you are, not who you will or should be.

3. Believe that sky’s the limit- if you have little goals you will have little success, the bigger your dreams the more potential for your possible success. Even If you think your dream is too big, strive to reach that dream, because you will end up at a better place than if you would have set your sights on a smaller goal. The trick is to really believe you can do it, this just isn’t wishful thinking. Wishful thinking never got anyone anything, you need to find out what you want and get out there and get it. If you really want that house on the beach your mind will come up with ways to help you get it.(develop faith in your self)

How to remove junk beliefs:

1. Meditate on your old belief and tell the truth about it. Now replace it with a belief that will better serve you. Meditate on it until you feel you have changed that belief.

Now when you accept these beliefs it means you will have to raise your standards and develop a strategy that will put you on the road to accomplish what you set forth. Do whatever you have to do. Read any books that will spark your interest or help you discover any distinctions that will point you in the right direction. Find a role model, a person who has already accomplished what you want. Find out what some of their beliefs, interests, body language, image, etc. is and adopt them as your own. Your role model can serve as a blue print, the goal is to cut down on the trial and error so you can get where you want faster than you ever thought possible. You can take all the qualities from all the people you admire and add your own personal touch. Just think of if it as if you are trying to build the person you want and know you can be. Thomas Edison is one of the greatest inventors in history, he was able to elaborate, modify and adapt on other peoples ideas. You don’t have torecreate the wheel just constantly be aware of any success ingredients you come across and make them part of your identity. Think of your mind as a warehouse the more you learn and store will eventually serve as an inventory for future reference, which will breed new ideas and perspectives.

Consistency is key we are all creatures of patterns and habits. In order to become the person you desire to be, start by changing your patterns. Think of all the quality traits you must possess, make a pattern which uses those traits efficiently than strive to be consistent. Consistency will develop into habits and this is key because if you fail to be consistent with your actions you will not be consistent with who you desire to be. This lack of confusion between your actions and what your mind knows you are capable of leads to tremendous amounts of stress, confusion, and even depression. Many other consequences also come from a lack of consistency.

This is why awareness of self is critical; you need to be constantly evaluating your self. Decide if the persona you are currently displaying is the reality that you want for yourself, because with enough time thats what your reality will become.

Thank you for reading my hub, I love to hear anyones opinion or suggestions. Good luck to everyone.
