The Power of Prayer

The terms  ” power of prayer” and the “power of thought” are so closely linked that the interpretation is identical.  Prayer actually deals with the mind or the ‘changing of the mind or thought patterns’

We often turn to prayer to calm, uplift and renew us.  Hence this means it affects our thinking.  When we change our thinking we change our world.

 Prayer releases the highest form of energy in the universe, as it links you with a God energy, which is your source”.

“When you pray, you stir into action an atomic force.  You release a potent spiritual vibration that can be released in no other way.  Through prayer you unleash a God energy within and around you that gets busy working for you and through you, producing right attitudes, reactions and results.  It is your prayers that recognize and release that God power.”  ( The Dynamic Laws of Prayer by Catherine Ponder).

As a young girl I learned about the power of prayer from a group of nuns whom I frequented every second weekend or so for many many years.  I spent long periods of time in prayer in the chapel of the convent I visited and it was there that I began to appreciate and understand that one did not approach prayer as a way of ‘pleading with God for something we desperately needed and wanted in our lives’, but as a way to make conscious contact with God.

How often have you seen movies where one came to crossroads in their lives and went down on bended knee and cried out ” God, I know I never come to you for anything but if you grant me this one little thing I promise I will never bother you again”.  That is prayer?

That is a desperate attempt nothing short of grabbing at a straw and hoping ( though secretly doubting).

Prayer should not be our ” last resort’ when all else has failed.  Through prayer we connect to the God within.  When we turn to praying as our first option on every occasion we learn to become proficient in communicating with our Source.  As we look within, quiet the mind, body and emotions, it changes our energy or vibrational frequency thus attracting to us   ideas, inspiration and solutions to problems that we would not have otherwise thought of if we had turned within.

” Through prayer, you tap the operation of higher laws of supreme mind and spirit.” ” Your imprisoned thoughts and pent-up negative emotions go free and dissolve, as a higher energy floods your being and your world.” ( The Dynamic Laws of Prayer by Catherine Ponder).

There are so many ways to approach prayer: meditation, relaxation, affirmations, through periods of silence and more.  Because we are all so unique one method of praying does not fit all.  However the end result is what we want right?

Catherine Ponder was one of the first authors to influence and help change my own thinking.  She is considered one of America’s foremost inspirational authors and is a minister of the nondenominational Unity faith – long known as ‘the pioneer of positive thinking”.  She has been described by some as the ‘Norman Vincent Peale among lady ministers”.

After reading Catherine Ponder’s book  The Dynamic Laws of Prayer , you will not longer consider prayer as a dull practise.

Know what you want!

The Law of Attraction succinctly put is : YOU GET WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT!

Some 20 years ago my father was diagnosed with liver cancer and this is when I began to Learn about the power of the Law of Attraction long before I had ever heard of those words Law Of Attraction!

My father refused to believe that he could not overcome it and so checked himself into a holistic clinic in the countryside some two hours drive from where we lived then.

It was here that my father who was removed from anything or anyone that would tell him other than he was going to live and remained in silence for more than 30 days under the careful watch of an amazing team of holistic doctors. Here he fasted for 30 days under strict observation and spent most of his time meditating.

He refused to accept anything other than a positive outcome and though I was still quite young and in my early twenties, I remember my father’s thinking become rather sharp, his senses heightened and a remarkable transformation taking place.

The Law of Attraction is an impartial law that simply IS. It is a Law that works whether you use it or not. If you choose to use it deliberately – then all the better for you. If you do not choose to use it deliberately, then you will end up wherever!
Here are some useful tips on using it more effectively and more deliberately:

1. When you want something from the Universe be clear about what you want. The more specific and clearer the better.
2. Ask for what you want in the PRESENT tense – as if it were already here.
3. Know why you want it. For example, if you want more money, what do you want it for? Do you want a better lifestyle, home, car, holiday. When you KNOW what you want it for it is easier to remain focused.
4. Take Action: Notice any opportunities that may suddenly come your way. follow your ‘gut’ feeling – your intuition.
5. Create a List ora  Vision Board to help you stay focused on your intention. Look at your list or vision board daily.
6. KNOW that it is already on its way to you.
7. Detach from it emotionally. That is: Do not be concerned HOW, WHEN, WHERE it is going to come from. Just trust.

Develop that inner knowing that it is happening NOW!
8. Change any old beliefs or thoughts you have about money. If for example you had the belief instilled in you since you were a child as I had that the only way to acquire money is to work 16 hour days and you had to work pretty hard, then this belief has to go.

Believe that it can come from expected and unexpected sources. Take inspired action towards what you want. I have met many people who have expressed that they would love more money but do not want to do a thing to get it! They would like it to fall from the sky! Do they believe it could happen that way? NO!

Quite simply you can’t get something for nothing. You must have an exchange somewhere. Begin to make an effort towards what you want.   Wishful thinking is hardly enough and in fact is not the same. Wishful thinking is not backed by belief and for most it is backed by disbelief.

Banish doubt! Take a look at your thoughts and your emotions behind your thoughts. Are your emotions in line with your thoughts? Do you believe without a shadow of a doubt that nothing can shake your conviction that you will attract all that you desire?  The Law of Attraction is always working – Believe it or not!

Becoming A Detective Of Your Thoughts

I was watching an interview on You tube earlier today with Joe Vitale author of Zero Limits on Larry King Live.  Larry King asked Joe Vitale ” How do you clear negative self thoughts?”

He mentioned that there are many ways in which we could could this however one way is to ” become a detective of your own mental activity”.  That is:  to watch carefully and pay attention to the positive and negative thoughts that pop into our heads. We need to notice which makes make you feel good and which ones make you feel bad. 

Clearly, the ones that make you feel bad are the negative thoughts.  So what you need to do is notice the thoughts that make you fell good and as Dr Joe Vitale mentions ” You want to reach for the thoughts that feel good and you start to go in the direction of having more of those and going back to his statement about fundamental laws and psychology – you get more of what you focus on.  Focus on the positive thoughts and the negative ones will start to drop away or you won’t pay attention to them as much”.

Negative thought patterns have a tremendous impact on our lives.  If we are knee deep in problematic circumstances, then we have created them on an inner level and the only way to change that is to go within and change our thinking.  As Dr  Vitale mentions, we need to focus on positive thoughts more and more and as this happens more and more frequently  the negative ones begins to fall away and we don’t pay attention to them as much.

Remember, negative thoughts WILL manifest in your life as much as positive thoughts.  In choosing deliberately what you focus your thinking upon, you shape your life circumstances.  If you do not think much of yourself, then you are not much.  If you do not think you can, you won’t.  If you think you are useless, you are.  If you think you are not worthy or much, you’re not.  You are everything you think. 

Begin to change the way you think, and the way you think will change your life.

Most have us have been there at least once……or twice….or three times….or more.   Personal experience has taught me that having some positive goals set up for yourself around this challenging time is a blessing!

It is far better to set yourself a list of ‘to do’ things as opposed to sitting in front of the phone hoping it will ring, or eating a box of candy followed by a tub or two of ice cream ( chocolate that is) in front of the television set and washing it down with a bottle or two of  Pinot Noir Chardonnay.  To say the least- it’s not good for you – though momentarily you may feel good.

Here are some simple steps that you might like take into consideration that I know have worked well for many.  And it doesn’t cost a cent!

STEP ONE:

Get out a notebook and in it write down some clearing out procedures like:

1.  Spring Clean the house

2.  Remove anything or everything that reminds you of the former partner ( except the kids!)

3.  Have a garage sale – you’ll feel productive and make some extra cash

4.  Re-arrange the furniture in the house- or throw out some of the  furniture.

In getting rid of and clearing out, you mentally make room for new things to come into your life.

STEP 2:

Write a list of all the things you still have to be grateful for regardless of what you think you have lost.  Focusing on what you have as opposed to what is missing is far more productive.  As well, in focusing on what is missing, more of the same continues to show up in your life. 

STEP 3:

Set up at least 10-15 minutes of ME time in your day.  Use this time for meditation, not just for relaxation, but a time when you can work on changing your past thinking habits – the thinking that led you to where you find yourself now.  Look at how you can change your thinking and introduce new  positive thoughts/beliefs to replace old negative thoughts/beliefs.

step 4:

Write a list of all the things you’ve wanted to do now that you don’t have anyone telling you what you can or can’t do! , like:

Climb Mount Everest

Go bungee jumping

Drop out of a plane ( parachute included!!)

Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Write a book

Take Latin dancing classes

Stay out at your girlfriend’s place until late

Eat pizza for breakfast

And just plain re-invent yourself!

step 5:

Love yourself  even if no one else does. Remain in a state of Gratitude for what you do have.  Appreciate who YOU are, your own self worth and inner beauty.  Soon everyone else will see it.
